John was admitted as an Attorney in 1995, after completing articles at Shepstone & Wylie Tomlinsons in Pietermaritzburg. John pursued a successful career in business, predominantly in the sports, events and media industry for 18 years, prior to entering legal practice.
This period saw him hold senior management positions at MegaPro Marketing, Octagon Marketing and TransAfrica Media. In addition, he was CEO of the Comrades Marathon Association and Head of Contracts at the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee, also acting as Manager of Contracts and Procurement for a short period during the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, John owned and managed Sportsworld South Africa and was responsible for the management of several large scale corporate hospitality programmes, including event sponsors MTN SA, MTN Group and Aggreko, managing over 35,000 guests across both tournaments.
Throughout his sports business career, John doubled up as an internal legal advisor to the entities in which he was involved, developing dual and integrated legal and commercial skills. John currently specializes in the provision of legal and commercial solutions to businesses, particularly in the sports and events industries, as well as the IT sector.
